Website Design Brief Template for a Marketing Website
A website design brief describes the visitor’s job, the action the site needs to support, the content available and the constraints around launch and development.
Turn this into my briefStart with the outcome.
A visitor can understand the offer and take the next appropriate action without guessing what the business does.
What to include in the brief.
- 01Visitor and entry point: who arrives, from where and with what level of awareness
- 02Primary conversion: enquiry, purchase, demo, booking or application
- 03Pages and hierarchy: which information is essential before the visitor acts
- 04Evidence: product, customer, operational or category proof available
- 05Assets and platform: brand system, copy, photography, CMS and developer constraints
- 06Launch definition: device requirements, approvals, measurement and deadline
A worked example.
We sell inventory software to independent retailers. Most visitors arrive from founder-led LinkedIn and paid search, understand the problem and need proof that setup is manageable. The homepage should lead to a demo request; we also need product, pricing and customer-story pages. We have existing product screenshots and customer interviews, but no finished copy. The developer works in Next.js and needs Figma files for desktop and mobile by 1 September.
When you are ready to hire.
